Enormocast 220: Alex Honnold – The Same, but More So

Alex in 2013, 2020, 2017

On Episode 220 of the Enormocast, I sit down across the internet with Alex Honnold. A lot has happened to Alex Honnold since we last talked in 2017. Back then, he had just free soloed El Cap, but the Oscar winning film of that ascent was still year away from blowing our minds and moistening our palms. So I endeavored to discover if AH had changed much. If he had let the fame and fortune fortune and rubbing his elbows with rock stars go to his head. Turns out he’s same old Alex Honnold: still wants to climb, still has no time for your bullshit. And he also still wants to make the world a better, more equitable place. Good to know that some things never change.

  1. Fantastic! Keep going and I think we are all looking forward for the Sharma-Kalous episode! Stay well

  2. You almost sounded down on yourself for not having Sharma on (yet) but it’s as if you forgot about your former “in-person only” format and it’s logistical complications. Yeah, I’d love to hear a Kailous-Sharma conversation, but until you do, just keep up the great work.

    1. I’ve had the face to face chances here and there. He’s a guy that’s never seemed too psyched on it, though, and made it a little tricky. But we now have a very close personal friend in common in Barcelona, so we’ll see. But thanks for the affirmation!

  3. Really enjoyed this one. What was the podcast you talked about at 1:25:15? Sounded like “Dwight’s podcast.”

  4. Great episode, as usual! Steve House did an AMA a while ago, and he mentioned that he hadn’t been invited on. I wouldn’t be surprised if an invite slipped by him though, I know he’s a super busy guy with writing books, having kids, co-owning Uphill Athlete (Scott would be a cool guy to have on as well), and also moving to Austria.

    1. Yeah. I keep hearing about that Non-invite claim. Literally have invited him to his face on at least two occasions. He agreed but always made it a little tricky. I’ll hit him up again, I suppose.
