On Episode 254 of the Enormocast, I connect with former gymnast, now climber and nutritionist, Amity Warme. Though Amity grew up just down the road from the climbing mecca of Boulder, Colorado and under the shadow of the Diamond and Rocky Mountain National Park, she was too preoccupied as a child and teen gymnast to notice rock climbing. Then an injury ended her run in a leotard and sent her seeking a new place to pour her considerable energy. Enter climbing. Amity took to it immediately, but it was a dark three years mucking around in New Jersey with her husband that broke them loose to a life on the road and climbing. Soon, Amity was crushing hard 5.13 and wondering about big objectives in Yosemite and beyond. Since the 2020 pandemic shut in opened up, Amity has been on a tear with ground up ascents of Golden Gate, Corazon, and a one-day-self-supported Free Rider ascent*, making her only the 5th woman to climb El Cap in a day. Meanwhile, she eats 5.13 trad for breakfast wherever she goes.

Enormocast 252: Fallon Rowe – What Would Marcus Do?

On Episode 252 of the Enormocast, I connect with climber and author, Fallon Rowe. Fallon grew up in Idaho as a scrappy adventurer amongst beauty queens, and like many before her, she was gifted climbing by the YMCA. Her outdoor climbing dreams were solidified while attending College in Logan, Ut – striking distance of the Wasatch, City of Rocks, Indian Creek and more. But then a slow rolling disaster hit in the form of an abusive boyfriend and a nightmare relationship. Fallon has just completed a manuscript about that relationship and the trauma that accompanied those months many years ago. Fallon also manages chronic illness while climbing. On this show, she’s ready to talk, come clean, and move on – like a good stoic should.

Enormocast 217: Michaela Kiersch – Life’s Greater Needs

On Episode 217 of the Enormocast, I connect after some internet trouble with the indomitable Michaela Kiersch. Michaela grew up a Chicago girl – loving baseball and the White Sox- but when she found the climbing gym, her baseball goals were supplanted. The climbing community embraced Michaela at just the right time as her mother’s long battle with cancer ended in her death when Michaela was just a girl. Michaela cites the embrace of her climbing community in Chicago as a major help in her grief. Michaela’s mother lived long enough to instill Michaela with ambition and drive that brought her to the top of competition and sport climbing with national championships and multiple 5.14c ascents. Those same traits are seeing her through a PhD program in occupational therapy. Truly someone who sees more to life than climbing, Michaela may just have the energy to have it all.
