Enormocast 246: Bronwyn Hodgins – Make a Plan, Stick to the Plan

Photos Jaron Pham, Nick Smith. Jacob Cook

On Episode 246 of the Enormocast, I connect for the second time on the show with Canadian climber, Bronwyn Hodgins. Bron appeared on the show in 2019 with her husband, Jacob Cook, and since that time, Bron’s climbing has evolved and grown exponentially. She’s freed more big walls, climbed hard sport, .13d cracks, and expeditioned into the deepest regions of Baffin Island. Her husband Jacob was a mentor, but now Bron is a certified guide and strong mentor to others. And her OTHER superpower is her ability to tackle the logistics and planning of far flung expeditions in the far north. Being able to put all the moving parts together for a long and safe(ish) stay in the backcountry is an ability that Bron was practically born with. All in all, Bronwyn Hodgins represents the new soul of Canadian climbing.

Enormocast 245: James Lucas – Peaches en Ragalia

On Episode 245, James Lucas and I reconvene to catch up on his topsy-turvy life. This installment, his 4th, finds James on the upswing from a low point after losing his job, his girlfriend, his stoke, and purpose. James talks about losing himself in dance, home remedies for panic attacks, therapy, and general depression. But by the end, he’s back on the upswing and we discuss some dubious dating advice administered by one Madeleine Sorkin. James is probably the most forthcoming and honest guest to ever grace the Enormocast, and its always a joyride when he hits the mic!

Enormocast 244: Hazel Findlay – A Work in Progress

On Episode 244, we herald the return of British trad ace, Hazel Findlay. Since her last appearance in 2013, a lot has happened to both the Royal We and Hazel Findlay. We start the conversation with dissecting her own podcast, The Curious Climber. Then we move to talking about her mental training and coaching. Hazel reveals that she herself is a “work in progress” in terms of mental training despite her incredible record on hard, scary trad. Hazel dishes on her own body image hang-ups, and her role as an inspirational woman climber. Oh, and don’t you forget she is a fucking good sport climber!
