Enormocast 214: Pete Whittaker – A Right Wad

On Episode 214 of the Enormocast, I beam myself to Sheffield, England, the heart of British climbing, to talk to Pete Whittaker. Pete is one half of the infamous Wide Boyz but not just an offwidth climber. His prowess on cracks of all sizes is well known and has lead to his new definitive modern crack climbing instruction book cleverly called, Crack Climbing. But on top of that acumen, Pete is also a brilliant trad climber and Grit climber. Finally, his bigwall record in Yosemite is quite astounding with several free ascents of the Big Stone and even a one day rope solo ascent of the Free Rider. Known, too, for a cheeky sense of humor and his rolling real-life-buddy-movie with Tom Randall, it always seems like Pete is indeed Alex Lowe’s mythical Best-Climber-Having-the-Most-Fun.

Enormocast 213: Chelsea Murn – Free Your Mind.

On Episode 213, I sit down through a computer screen with Chelsea Murn of Lady Beta Coaching. Chelsea’s coaching business caters exclusively to women and women’s climbing performance. Chelsea brings a deep holistic approach to her craft. On this episode, we talk about how impediments to climbing performance can be deep seeded in the emotional and mental health of the participant. We also tread into that landmine laden world of gender differences. But in the end, its an examination of how we all approach climbing and climbing performance for better and worse.

Enormocast 212: TAPS 2020 – Cursed Pestilence Edition

On Episode 212 of the Enormocast, brothers in spray, Andrew Bisharat and Steve Dilk return for the annual chat about the fallen trends in climbing. Despite 2020 being a hellscape, we still managed a tongue-in-cheek raucous conversation about the stuff we lost to COVID’s shut downs and economic hardship, as well as long time trends that we believe to be dying out. We saved a small corner for our cancel wish list, and finally a surprise submission (even to the contributor) from Reddit. On the block this year: secret spots, Olympic fury, Dilk’s manhood, “Rig”, Drones, Ground up ascents, and the platform on which this very podcast resides: shit-talking. We even addressed your very dignity and humanity: is it also a dying trend?
