On Episode 311 of the Enormocast, I catch up in Moab with Brazilian climber Gisely Ferraz AKA Gisely Souza AKA Brazilianclimbergirl AKA Gi. Though Gisely started climbing in Brazil, she has spent much of the last two decades in North America- first in the Northeast and then out West. Though she fell in and out of climbing during her early life, after she raised a boy and got him through college, Gisely felt free to pursue her climbing dirtbag dreams at 40. That path led her into the arms of Ken Anderson and a few dream years together on the wing with her perfect partner. But then tragedy struck and Ken perished from a long fall while he and Gisely were on the Chief in Squamish. The years following were brutal for Gisely, but she carried on and healed as best she could through climbing. Gisely has gone on to be a force in OW climbing, new routing in the desert, and climbing in Patagonia. And Ken Anderson’s inspiration has never left her.

On Episode 203 of the Enormocast, I meet up with Mary Eden, AKA Tradprincess on a porch in Moab, UT. It was a pleasant morning prelude to scorcher of a day and Mary and I got a solid hour in just before she bailed to Flagstaff. Mary came from Appalachia and ended up in Moab with enough gumption to try climbing. After a few years as a hobbyist, Mary got down to business in 2015. She had a series of old school mentors that instilled the hard ethics of climb, don’t talk. But nevertheless, after a bet, Mary got an Instagram account and Tradprincess was born. Starting off as a hard core traddie, Mary now tries to embrace all forms of rock climbing in her relentless pursuit of fun and freedom on the rocks.

Episode 187: Brittany Goris- To Dream the Impossible (Trad) Dream.

On Episode 187, I sit down with recent trad convert, Brittany Goris. We were ensconced on a very cold evening in the Mobile Studio parked in the Supercrack Parking lot in Indian Creek. Brittany started as a boulderer and sport climber but has been spending her energies recently exploring the limits of her trad climbing. For better or worse, she battles constantly with ego and competitiveness, but strives to be her “best self” with every new challenge. The result has been a growing resume of bold trad ascents at the hardest grades with the ultimate dream of the elusive tick of 5.14 trad.
