Enormocast 255: Dani Dobrot and Prerna Dangi and the Birth of Global Climbing

On Episode 255 of the Enormocast, I connect with Dani Dobrot and Prerna Dangi. Dani is the Associate Director of the Global Climbing Initiative and Prerna is an Indian climber and guide for Climb Like a Woman. I catch up with both woman to talk about the Global Climbing Initiative, and its efforts to assist and empower climbing communities around the world. Dani’s experience as a medical aid worker informed her decision to join GCI and also gave her the experience to know the good, the bad, and the ugly of aid work around the globe. She brings this light but focused touch to GCI’s efforts in Kenya, Malawi, India and beyond. Prerna is a recipient of GCI’s investment in leadership training which she brings to her role in CLAW: the org started by Gowri Varanashi to introduce Indian women to rock climbing. GCI, Dani, and Prerna love climbing and are building the climbing community around the world.

Enormocast 254: Amity Warme – Putting the Hammer Down

On Episode 254 of the Enormocast, I connect with former gymnast, now climber and nutritionist, Amity Warme. Though Amity grew up just down the road from the climbing mecca of Boulder, Colorado and under the shadow of the Diamond and Rocky Mountain National Park, she was too preoccupied as a child and teen gymnast to notice rock climbing. Then an injury ended her run in a leotard and sent her seeking a new place to pour her considerable energy. Enter climbing. Amity took to it immediately, but it was a dark three years mucking around in New Jersey with her husband that broke them loose to a life on the road and climbing. Soon, Amity was crushing hard 5.13 and wondering about big objectives in Yosemite and beyond. Since the 2020 pandemic shut in opened up, Amity has been on a tear with ground up ascents of Golden Gate, Corazon, and a one-day-self-supported Free Rider ascent*, making her only the 5th woman to climb El Cap in a day. Meanwhile, she eats 5.13 trad for breakfast wherever she goes.

Enormocast 253: Nik Berry – In the Arena

On Episode 253 of the Enormocast, climber and avid first-ascensionist, Nik Berry, joins the Enormocast. Nik was a typical suburban Salt Lake kid until he found and became obsessed with climbing. His go-for-it attitude brought him early success as well as some close calls. But Nik reigned in the risk enough to become one of the most accomplished big wall free-climbers out there. Along the way, he climbed and had epic partnerships with the likes of Hayden Kennedy, Mason Earle, and Alex Honnold. Now, Nik splits his time between being a sponsored climber, dirtbagging, and being a contract ER nurse across the country.
