On Episode 311 of the Enormocast, I catch up in Moab with Brazilian climber Gisely Ferraz AKA Gisely Souza AKA Brazilianclimbergirl AKA Gi. Though Gisely started climbing in Brazil, she has spent much of the last two decades in North America- first in the Northeast and then out West. Though she fell in and out of climbing during her early life, after she raised a boy and got him through college, Gisely felt free to pursue her climbing dirtbag dreams at 40. That path led her into the arms of Ken Anderson and a few dream years together on the wing with her perfect partner. But then tragedy struck and Ken perished from a long fall while he and Gisely were on the Chief in Squamish. The years following were brutal for Gisely, but she carried on and healed as best she could through climbing. Gisely has gone on to be a force in OW climbing, new routing in the desert, and climbing in Patagonia. And Ken Anderson’s inspiration has never left her.

Enormocast 310: Timmy O’Neill – The Charmed Life Must Not Yield

Subscribe

On Episode 310 of the Enormocast, the inimitable Timmy O’Neill returns. Since Timmy’s Enormocast in 2020, several life-changes have gone down: a marriage, a kid, and maybe most impactful of all, Timmy suffered a stroke in Patagonia not long after his first Enormocast (not the Enormobump he was looking for!). O’Neill is a long time climber, sworn part of the Stone Monkey Tribe, bitchin’ kayaker, big wall speed demon, but nothing prepared him for spending weeks wondering if his life would slip away at any moment. That emergency, and a very close call with his son Cody, has renewed Timmy’s faith in life, love, and sucking the marrow out of every moment. Timmy is also currently living the dream as the touring drummer for Par Avion, a surf rock act out of Santa Monica, CA. A charmed life indeed for a Philly kid and former court jester of Camp 4.

On Episode 309 of the Enormocast, I reconnect with climber Anna Hazlenutt. Anna has built a career around her nom de plume (birth name Hazlett) starting out as an influencer making fun climbing based videos and evolving into a serious and skilled climber. Anna specializes in technical slabs and vertical rock, often tossing in a little spice like on her ascent of Once Upon a Time in the Southwest. Though Anna says that she often climbs scared, she’s found a way to harness that fear in unique and powerful ways. On this installment with Anna, we run down her recent trip to Madagascar with Matilda Söderlund, other climbing adventures since her previous appearance on the show, and her motivations as a climber and professional.
