Enormocast 248: Kaya Lindsay – Lock the Doors and Drive Away

On episode 248 of the Enormocast, I post up in HER van to talk to Kaya Lindsay: offwidth aficionado, film-maker, van-lifer (former), and more. I know it seems like Sprinters have been jamming up the parking since the beginning of time, but Kaya was a first-wave modern #vanlife climber. Striking out from Santa Cruz, CA to Joshua Tree, Kaya had limited rock climbing skills, a limited bank account, but a capacity for boundless joy. During her 6 year run in her van, she became an accomplished trad-climber, photographer, film-maker, and internet media maven with her Onechicktravels and Girls Gone Wide brands. She also became a little jaded, but then she gathered a crew that included Brittany Goris, Mary “Tradprincess” Eden, and Mercadi Carlson and changed the way we think about women who trad-climb and women who offwidth. Though she right now has four walls in Moab, UT, her van is always ready to “lock the doors, and drive away”.

Enormocast 247: Dustin Bowen – From Rocks to Rodeos

On Episode 247 of the Enormocast, I sit down with climber, resoler, and professional bull rider, Dustin Bowen. Dustin grew up in Pennsylvania, but was drawn to Western style rodeo from an early age. When his mom’s plan to let him get it out of his system in rodeo school failed, Dustin went on to rank as a high schooler and get a full ride to college riding bulls. Then Dustin spent many years on the road as a successful bull rider before finding climbing. Once the climbing bug bit, Dustin quickly found himself split between the two lifestyles, but after a 3 year hiatus from the Rodeo, Dustin is pursuing his bull riding dreams one more time before he ages out. Meanwhile, he’s also building his resole business, Rodeo Resole, in Tucson, AZ.

Enormocast 246: Bronwyn Hodgins – Make a Plan, Stick to the Plan

Photos Jaron Pham, Nick Smith. Jacob Cook

On Episode 246 of the Enormocast, I connect for the second time on the show with Canadian climber, Bronwyn Hodgins. Bron appeared on the show in 2019 with her husband, Jacob Cook, and since that time, Bron’s climbing has evolved and grown exponentially. She’s freed more big walls, climbed hard sport, .13d cracks, and expeditioned into the deepest regions of Baffin Island. Her husband Jacob was a mentor, but now Bron is a certified guide and strong mentor to others. And her OTHER superpower is her ability to tackle the logistics and planning of far flung expeditions in the far north. Being able to put all the moving parts together for a long and safe(ish) stay in the backcountry is an ability that Bron was practically born with. All in all, Bronwyn Hodgins represents the new soul of Canadian climbing.
